Ultimate green fiords, many small coves protected from winds, crystal blue water, exotic secluded beaches, small caves by the sea and three small traditional villages create a place of rich natural beauty. Meganisi extends in an area of 22 square kilometers and around 1000 people live there all year round. It is literally translated to “Big Island” because it is the largest of a complex named Prince Islands (Scorpios, Scorpidi, Madouri, Sparti, Cheloni, Tsokari). It is also a part of a larger island complex called “Tilevoides”, consists of the islands Kalamos, Kastos, Kithros, Thilia, Arkoudi and Atokos. composing the administrative district of the Municipality of Meganisi (Taphion).

Spartochori is built on top of the hill above port Spilia. Traditional alleys, a few traditional coffee shops and tavernas challenge the visitor to discover the greek hospitality. The main square of the village, Stefani, offers some stunning views of the Ionian sea. The visitor can enjoy the view of Scorpios island, the deep blue sea and the green places around, while enjoying the laughs and games of kids.

About three kilometers away, you come across Katomeri, the capital village of the island. It is a rural place, full of olive trees, low homes and traditional alleys full of flowers and purple bougainvilleas. The haven of Meganisi is Vathi, a beautiful village that is also the island's second harbour. The visitor can spend a lot of time walking on its quay, next to the fishing boats of the locals and the various yachts and sailing boats. There are a lot of tavernas where you could try greek or international cuisine as well as coffee houses where you can drink ouzo with the locals.

In the south, the shape of the island completely changes, as it morphs into a narrow peninsula without bays and gulfs. It looks like an arc that has a southeast orientation , all the way up to the cape of Kefali. That part of the island is suitable for hiking. Every day, there is a tour around Meganisi and the closest islands which starts from Nidri, so if you want to see the sea caves that exist in the south you should not miss it. The most famous one is Papanikolis cave, that is 30 meters deep and has a small beach inside. Other caves that are famous are those of Giovani and Deamon.

Meganisi is a favourite anchorage for those who travel by yachts or by sailing boats. Sealed from mass tourism, it is an idyllic place for people who enjoy complete privacy. It is also an ideal destination for both family holidays and couples who deserve incognito vacation. The tirquoise sea in combination with the dense vegetation that extends all the way to the coast, create a magic place for vacation.

Most of the beaches are not organized, so the visitor can come in contact with the virgin nature. The island has a very well organized road network, so everyone can move between the villages and the beaches easily. Meganisi is the best choice for those who love nature, hiking and outdoor sport activities.
